The Art of Japanese sword

Thousands of people gets from heaven solely one life and not losing the idea of honoring it 尊敬 is the teaching of bushido. That is reflected by hearth modesty 心の慎み and especially by respect 敬 to the others which reflects by means of politeness 礼儀.

Let us introduce you the new websites of the artist Jiri Straka. The phenomenon of ink painting, so intensively Chinese (or sino-cultural), has always been fascinating the western beholder by its difference and indescribable charm, although Jiri Straka (born 1967) is one of truly very few non-Chinese who had the possibility to study authentic ink painting and even on prestigious Beijing academy.

The first issue this year includes some information about our school of master Nakagawa (www.shidokai.cz) and other activities of Busido association. The article also includes the rules of the upcoming tameshigiri competition and brief description of last events and the visit of the artists from Kenjinjuku.

Okimono of a devil from the Rashmon gate

Carved boxwood okimono with a nice patina in the form of a netsuke with himotoshi cord holes, an excellent rendition of the Ibaraki devil dressed in a woman´s kimono with loose hair blown by the wind which was in the case of a lying object like this okimono a difficult challenge.
